7-Day Tangier to Merzouga Desert Tour itinerary
Day 1: Tangier – Chefchaouen
7-Day Tangier Desert Tour to Merzouga departure: We’ll begin our journey in Tangier, traveling through the scenic Rif Mountains to reach Chefchaouen, the famous “Blue City.” Together, we’ll explore its vibrant blue-washed medina, charming streets, and artisan shops. We’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a traditional riad in Chefchaouen.
Day 2: Chefchaouen – Meknes – Volubilis – Fes
After breakfast, we’ll drive to Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities. Here, we’ll visit the Bab Mansour Gate, Heri es-Souani granaries, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum.
Next, we’ll head to Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its well-preserved Roman ruins and mosaics. By evening, we’ll arrive in Fes, where we’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a riad.
Day 3: Fes Guided Tour
Spend the day exploring Fes, Morocco’s cultural and spiritual heart. Together with a local guide, we’ll visit the UNESCO-listed Medina, the Al Quaraouiyine University, Bou Inania Madrasa, Chouara Tannery, and the Jewish Quarter (Mellah). We’ll stroll through the bustling souks and immerse ourselves in the city’s vibrant history. Dinner and overnight in Fes.
Day 4: Fes – Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Midelt – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi Dunes)
After breakfast, we’ll travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and the Cedar Forest near Azrou, where we may see Barbary macaque monkeys.
After lunch in Midelt, we’ll drive through the lush Ziz Valley with its palm groves and gorges before arriving in Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Together, we’ll enjoy dinner and stay overnight in a desert riad or hotel.
Day 5: Merzouga – Camel Trek – Desert Camp
Today, we’ll explore the magical desert surroundings of Merzouga. Visit Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa music, and meet Berber nomads to learn about their way of life. You’ll have the option to join us for sandboarding, quad biking, or a 4×4 desert tour.
In the late afternoon, we’ll embark on a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes, where we’ll witness the sunset before reaching our desert camp. Together, we’ll enjoy a traditional dinner, Berber drumming, and stargazing under the desert sky. Overnight in a standard or luxury desert camp.
Day 6: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Midelt
We’ll wake early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast. After returning to Merzouga on camels or by 4×4, we’ll visit Rissani, a historic trading hub known for its vibrant souks.
From there, we’ll continue to the spectacular Todra Gorge, where towering cliffs frame a serene river. After taking a short walk in the gorge, we’ll head to Midelt, where we’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel or guesthouse with dinner included.
Day 7: Midelt – Cedar Forest – Meknes – Tangier
After breakfast, we’ll journey back toward Tangier. Along the way, we’ll revisit the Cedar Forest near Azrou and pass through picturesque Berber towns. Depending on time, we can make a stop in Meknes for lunch or sightseeing before arriving in Tangier, where the 7-Day Tangier desert tour concludes.
